Will the compressed PDF still be readable and printable? ▾
Yes, for Light mode — 100% identical output. For Balanced mode — text remains sharp and the document is fully printable at standard sizes. For Extreme mode — the document is readable on screen but small text may appear slightly soft if printed at A3 or larger sizes. All three modes produce valid, standards-compliant PDF files that open in any PDF viewer.
Why did my file get bigger after compressing? ▾
This can happen if your original PDF is already highly optimized or consists entirely of vector text with no embedded images. In such cases, the rasterization process (Balanced/Extreme) adds overhead compared to the original vectors. Try Light mode instead — it performs lossless optimization and will always produce a file that is equal to or smaller than the original.
Are interactive form fields and signatures preserved? ▾
Light mode preserves all form fields, digital signatures, and annotations intact. Balanced and Extreme modes convert each page to a flat JPEG image — this removes interactive elements including form fields, checkboxes, and digital signature widgets, since those are replaced by a static rendered image. If you need to preserve fillable fields after compression, use Light mode only.
How much can I expect my PDF to shrink? ▾
Results vary by document type. A scanned photo-heavy PDF can shrink 80–95% with Extreme mode. A vector text PDF (like a Word doc exported to PDF) may only shrink 5–15% even on Extreme because vectors are inherently very compact. Typical scan documents see 60–85% reduction on Balanced mode. Can I compress a password-protected PDF? ▾
